Sgt Jack Moore

Here are pictures provide to me by the son of Sgt. Jack Moore (His son is also a Marine Sgt.) Jack enlisted in the Marine Corps for two years in 1958.
He served on the Des Moines from 1958-1960; he was only on active duty for 2 years and attained the rank of Sgt during that short period. This was quite a remarkable achievement since rank was difficult to achieve during that era. As any Marine who served during that time would tell you; a Marine would be very fortunate to achieve the rank of Corporal during that length of enlistment so attaining the rank of Sergeant was extraordinary.
Sgt Moore was a mount captain on a 3" 50 cal mount. He was recommended to go to Officer’s Candidate School by the Marine Detachment Commander but declined; preferring to remain on board the ship with his Marines."
He passed away untimely in 1982 due to a brain aneurysm
