Dear Jerry,

I was going through a box of old photos this evening and came across a few that were taken on the USS Des Moines.  I was looking up information on the Des Moines where I saw your name and address. I was wondering if you would be interested in having these photos. They belonged to a friend  but have no family connection so, if you could use them,

I would be glad to send them to you. Or, if you prefer, I can scan them and send them to you that way.  Unfortunately they are not dated.  These photos belonged to a Walter A. Mead, whom I am assuming was assigned to the Des Moines during the war. Walter passed away many years ago
and I was too young at the time to remember details. We always called him “Chief” but I don’t know what his rank was. Anyway, please let me know if the photos are of any use to you.
 Sincerely,

Mary Lou Murphy
